In the wake of the oil spill that hit the south-east coast of Mauritius after the sinking of a bulk carrier in late July and prompted by environmental NGOs, thousands of Mauritians flocked to Pointe d’Esny and Mahebourg. They came together to make booms filled with sugarcane straw, which are highly effective in countering the spread of fuel and oil on the coast.
The Rogers Group, of which Heritage Villas Valriche forms part, spared no effort and mobilised staff, equipment and technical resources to support the national effort, alongside fishermen, volunteers, companies, hotels and the many young people involved. This citizen, eco-responsible and unifying movement, widely covered by the international media, is prove of our dedication towards protecting and safeguarding the extraordinary biodiversity of our beaches and lagoons. This environmental awareness embodies the DNA of Heritage Villas Valriche and Rogers in general.

International experts have since taken over with more technical resources, restoring the mangroves and cleaning up the affected lagoons.
This unfortunate situation is fortunately limited geographically and well contained. The southern lagoons have not been impacted at all and our turquoise and fish-filled waters are still as enchanting as ever. Whether you love kayaking, kite surfing, scuba diving, stand-up paddling or windsurfing, it’s up to you to choose your favourite water activity in Heritage Villas Valriche’s crystal-clear lagoons.
